    Country Brief

C?te d’Ivoire is second largest economy in West Africa and a top world exporter of cocoa and cashews, boasting enormous economic potential. A civil war in 2002 split C?te d’Ivoire between rebel-held north and government-controlled south. A peace agreement signed in March 2007 brought back some stability in the country. Despite efforts made by the new government to address economic and security challenges, the country remains fragile. C?te d'Ivoire is heavily dependent on agriculture, which engages two-thirds of the population. The country is the world's largest producer and exporter of cocoa beans and a significant producer and exporter of coffee and palm oil.
